so someone just said they’re “really interested in history” how careful do you have to be?
“i just think history is interesting in general! i’m not interested in any specific part of it”: this person is most likely safe. never drop your guard though
“i’m interested in this specific subject or time period in history. (ex. ancient egypt, the golden age of piracy, the history of the printing press”: still probably safe. be on the lookout for certain risky historical subjects. you should know them you see them
“i’m really into WW2 history”: this is the caution zone, there’s plenty of valid reasons to be into WW2, but if they start talking about how Operation Sealion totally could have succeeded, it’s time to abort
“i’m specifically into roman history, the crusades, prussian military history, and WW2”: danger! do NOT talk about history with this person. in fact, do not talk to this person at all. you will regret it, you do not want to know what they think of the treaty of versailles or why germany lost the first world war
this post has inspired three different responses
1) people who lack any reading comprehension skills whatsoever and seem to think i’m saying “being into history makes you bad”
2) history students/historians saying some variation of “tbh this is true”
3) the kind of people my last point was specifying calling me slurs
It appears that only NDP and Green politicians are showing any concern or condemnation about what is happening in Wet’suwet’en.
Has anyone seen any Liberals or Conservatives put out statements like the above?
If I’ve missed any statements by politicians let me know as well.
i know most of my followers aren’t Canadian so they probably haven’t even heard that this is going on so please take a moment and read about this. The Wet’suwet’en need your support.
good thing i listen to exactly one song with explicit lyrics every day
I’ve been saying this for a while but Startup Bro is the new and terrifying lovechild of the brogrammer and the business major and he is somehow even more self-centered and bigoted than either of them
No, no, guys, look closely.
This house is looking for extremely physically fit young men (No drugs, no makeup, no special diet, exercise 15 hrs a week) who are passive and docile (no protests, no music lyrics with swears) who, most of all, will not be missed if they disappear(very little social media presence, not rich enough to own expensive luxury items, no need to constantly be in contact with their parents over bills/gifts, few identifying markings like tattoos)
PLEASE EUROPEAN FOLLOWERS!! THERE IS ONLY LESS THAN TWO WEEKS LEFT: Save your Internet from Article 13!! Sign the Petition and help it reach 4, 5000,000 signatures.
Or at least call your MPs and try to convince them against Article 13.
i’m fairly confident the reason everyone assumes Curiosity is about the size of a dog is because informal NASA press (and by extension, the general culture of people who care abt what NASA’s up to) talks about Curiosity like it is, in fact, an unusually smart and self-aware pet, and i think that’s beautiful.
years later House is still as relevant as he ever was
I wasn’t vaccinated and never got sick so
And I swam and didn’t drown.
Anecdotes aren’t evidence. The reason YOU specifically didn’t get sick is because of something called Mass Immunity.
That means that since everyone ELSE is vaccinated (you’re welcome), there’s nowhere for the virus to establish a hold. That mass immunity is the only thing that keeps people who CANNOT vaccinate—like the immunocompromised—from catching it.
The second that people stop vaccinating, that immunity disappears and the disease resurges, as is clear from the fact that the US is currently experiencing an epidemic of a disease that was projected to become extinct in our lifetimes.
Get immunized. There’s no reason not to.
Considering that there’s a whole host of people in my age range who weren’t vaccinated enough (even I was missing the second dose of MMR until recently) getting the measles and the mumps I think it’s ridiculous that we’re arguing over a life and death situation. Literally, do you want to live or die?
Another reason I don’t think people consider: I had three doses (one more than usual) of the measles/mumps/rubella vaccine. But after getting strep throat in southwest France in 2009 (where it was apparently fashionable not to vaccinate kids for a while, and where there had been a sudden measles outbreak) I got the measles. AND IT SUCKED.
It wasn’t because the vaccine didn’t work. It was because my immune system was weaker than usual. Everyone’s immune system has to deal with strep or colds sometime, so not vaccinating your offspring seriously does put everyone around you at risk––even if they made a smarter decision than you.
VACCINATE YOUR FUCKING KIDS 2015
It’s almost 2019 and this is still relevant
It’s 2019. We should be smarter than this. Vaccinate your fucking kids, and fact check because, lets remember, the guy who performed that study fudged the numbers and lost his medical licence you twats.
Many people continue to think avoiding meat as infrequently as once a week will make a significant difference to the climate. But according to one recent study, even if Americans eliminated all animal protein from their diets, they would reduce US greenhouse gas emissions by only 2.6%.
According to our research at the University of California, Davis, if the practice of Meatless Monday were to be adopted by all Americans, we’d see a reduction of only 0.5%.
Shit its almost like the real problem is corporate greed causing mass pollution on an unimaginable scale.
